10,126 Fresh Covid Cases In India, Lowest Daily Rise Since Early February: 10 Points

India saw the lowest daily rise in coronavirus cases since early February with 10,126 fresh infections in a sign of relief as the country looks forward to an increase in the vaccination pace amid the fight against COVID-19.

  1. India’s homegrown Covaxin, which got the WHO approval last week, has been recognised by the United Kingdom.

  2. India will buy 1 crore Zydus Cadilla “needle-free” Covid shots at Rs 265 each, sources have said.

  3. The nation’s active caseload stands at 1,40,638, which is the lowest in 263 days. The country has logged 3,43,66,987 cases since the start of the pandemic.

  4. The daily positivity rate, which stands at 0.93 per cent, has been less than 2 per cent for last 36 days.

  5. 332 deaths linked to Covid were recorded since yesterday, taking the total deaths to 4,61,057.

  6. The country has given 109 crore doses of vaccines since the start of the pandemic. However, in the last few weeks, the pace of vaccination has slowed down. 

  7. In India, COVID-19 cases passed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19, a report by news agency PTI says, citing official data.

  8. Worldwide, over 250 million Covid cases have been logged so far and over 50 lakh people have died due to Covid.

  9. The United States has reopened borders to fully vaccinated travellers.

  10. Last week, the WHO said that Europe could see half a million death by February in a dire warning.
